Movie Memes

Got this meme from Classical Bookworm.  We have to name 5 favorite movies and 5 guilty pleasure movies. I love these because it forces you to think about what movies are important to you right now. It says a lot about your spiritual journey as well. So, my five favorite are:

1. The Apostle for a stellar performance by Robert Duvall and an unflinching look at Pentecostalism and human frailty.

2.  Rear Window for the brilliant direction of Alfred Hitchcock in which he takes all of us right into our deepest fears and puts us in touch with our voyeuristic roots.

3.  Black Robe for its honest depiction of the cluelessness of priests and their attempts to missionize Canadian tribes in the early days of discovery.

4.  Sea of Love because Al Pacino doesn’t get any better than this and Ellen Barkin can’t get any hotter than this. Third rate story is made much better through first rate performances.

5. Waiting For Guffman because really, the made up music in this mockumentary is the type you cannot get out of your head. Brilliant satire by Guest and friends.

Now my favorite guilty pleasures:

1. Twister. I love, love, love Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt in this “throwaway” movie with a thrill ride of a premise.

2. Sorority Boys. I’m sorry, but this is the funniest college movie I’ve seen in a while, except for Dead Man on Campus. This has to be a tie.

3. Blade: Trinity. Ryan Reynolds is to die for.

4.  Kiss the Girls. This is the perfect Ashley Judd/Morgan Freeman vehicle.

5. Finding Nemo. I could watch this film over and over and over just for the dialog. It is for me what The Little Mermaid was to my 5 year old daughter. Can we watch it again, mom?

These lists are by no means definitive, my tastes change daily. What are your lists?
